Influenza A(H7N9) Virus in China

April 15, 2013 – On April 1, 2013, the World Health Organization (WHO) confirmed that individuals in China had been infected with avian influenza A(H7N9).

To date, there have been no reports of human illness in Canada associated with the H7N9 flu virus currently causing illness in China. The risk posed to humans by avian influenza is generally very low as it does not transmit easily from birds to infect humans.

For more information, please see the Memorandum and Guidance Document regarding Influenza A(H7N9) Virus in China from the Office of the Chief Medical Officer of Health.
