Mandatory Compliance Training

The purpose of mandatory compliance training is to improve occupational health and safety for Ontario's workforce. The requirements for mandatory compliance training apply to all workplaces covered under the Occupational Health and Safety Act, regardless of workplace size or sector. PSHSA offers mandatory compliance training across our various sectors and can help you understand requirements for your organization's health and safety program.

JHSC Certification Part 1
This program is the first part of the training process for individuals to be certified under guidelines established and enforced by the Ontario Ministry of Labour. Workplaces with 20 or more regular employees must have at least two personnel who have completed the certification training.
JHSC Certification Part 1 eLearning
This 2-day eLearning program covers the first part of the training required for you to be a member of a workplace Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC). Combined with JHSC Certification Part 2, it leads to certification under Ministry of Labour, Training and Skills Development (MLTSD) guidelines.
JHSC Certification Part 2
As the second part of the JHSC certification process, Sector Specific Certification assists JHSC members with issues particular to their work environment. To complete Certification Part Two, both management and worker members of the JHSC must receive training in the significant hazards found in their workplace.
JHSC Certification Refresher
In addition to being a mandated requirement for certified JHSC members, JHSC Certification Refresher training reviews key concepts from JHSC Certification Parts 1 and 2 training and includes relevant updates to OHS legislation and best practices. It is also an opportunity for JHSC members to share and discuss best practices and challenges experienced while on the JHSC.
Working at Heights
As of April 1, 2015, if you are working at heights, you are required to have training through a Ministry of Labour approved provider. This full day program includes information about how to work at heights safely, as well as practical application of skills.
WHMIS 2015
WHMIS training is a legal requirement for employees who may be exposed to hazardous materials. To ensure worker protection, employers must train workers about WHMIS 2015 as new labels and SDSs appear in workplaces. Our eLearning module will train your employees and meet compliance legislation.

Health & Safety Awareness for Supervisors & Workers
Health and safety is everyone’s business – from the employer to the worker. The intent of this program is to assist participants in understanding the Occupational Health and Safety Act, as well as the role they play in workplace health and safety.

Effective July 1, 2014, Regulation 297/13 requires health and safety awareness training for every worker and supervisor under Ontario’s Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA).

The Ministry of Labour, Training and Skills Development has developed an occupational health and safety awareness program which provides fundamental information on rights and duties under the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), roles of health and safety representatives and Joint Health and Safety Committee members, and common workplace hazards. This program is available free of charge on the Ministry’s website.

The Ministry of Labour has also developed Awareness Training Guidance Tools which will help to support the implementation of O. Reg. 297/13. The tools can be downloaded in PDF from the Government of Ontario Central Forms Repository using the links below:

PSHSA also offers both Supervisor and Worker Health & Safety Awareness training via eLearning and classroom courses. The training will enhance general awareness of legislated health and safety responsibilities, including the Internal Responsibility System, worker rights as well as the supervisor’s role in workplace management.

Upon completion of the training, participants will understand the requirements of Regulation 297/13 and will be informed on how to recognize, assess and control workplace hazards and how to evaluate such controls. These courses are applicable across all sectors, and will provide certificates upon completion.
