The purpose of mandatory compliance training is to improve occupational health and safety for Ontario's workforce. The requirements for mandatory compliance training apply to all workplaces covered under the Occupational Health and Safety Act, regardless of workplace size or sector. PSHSA offers mandatory compliance training across our various sectors and can help you understand requirements for your organization's health and safety program.
Effective July 1, 2014, Regulation 297/13 requires health and safety awareness training for every worker and supervisor under Ontario’s Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA).
The Ministry of Labour, Training and Skills Development has developed an occupational health and safety awareness program which provides fundamental information on rights and duties under the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), roles of health and safety representatives and Joint Health and Safety Committee members, and common workplace hazards. This program is available free of charge on the Ministry’s website.
The Ministry of Labour has also developed Awareness Training Guidance Tools which will help to support the implementation of O. Reg. 297/13. The tools can be downloaded in PDF from the Government of Ontario Central Forms Repository using the links below:
- Training Program Assessment for Workers

PSHSA also offers both Supervisor and Worker Health & Safety Awareness training via eLearning and classroom courses. The training will enhance general awareness of legislated health and safety responsibilities, including the Internal Responsibility System, worker rights as well as the supervisor’s role in workplace management.
Upon completion of the training, participants will understand the requirements of Regulation 297/13 and will be informed on how to recognize, assess and control workplace hazards and how to evaluate such controls. These courses are applicable across all sectors, and will provide certificates upon completion.
