MOL Information Bulletin: Timber Dome Structure Failures

September 3, 2014 – The Ministry of Labour has posted an Information Bulletin regarding Timber Dome Structure Failures as a result of four timber dome structure collapses that occurred in March and April 2014.

 

The bulletin is aimed at raising awareness about the potential for serious injuries that could result from such collapses and the need for employers and owners of timber domes structures to have a professional engineer familiar with timber dome construction inspect the structural integrity of the domes.

 

Many of these domes are owned by public sector employers. They are used by transportation and road maintenance authorities, municipalities, and snow removal contractors to protect and store sand and salt used for winter road maintenance.

 

Please take the time to learn about timber dome structures and the potential for serious injuries that could result from their collapse.
