In North America, the third week of October is designated as National Infection Control Week. It originated in Canada in 1988 to bring attention to infection control efforts in hospitals, long term care facilities as well as in the community. National Infection Control Week is an opportunity for infection prevention and control professionals to promote the excellent work that is being done and to educate the community and staff on the importance of infection prevention and control.
