Prevention Comes to the Ministry of Labour: An Update

As was previously announced, effective April 1, 2012, the Ministry of Labour (MOL) assumed responsibility for workplace injury and illness prevention throughout Ontario.  When Bill 160 received Royal Assent just over a year ago, careful consideration was given to when the various provisions would come into force in order to ensure a smooth transition between the WSIB and the MOL.  The amendments were scheduled to come into force at different times to allow for sufficient lead time for the ministry, employers, and other workplace parties, including agencies, to prepare for the changes.

On June 14th, Chief Prevention Officer, George Gritziotis released an update on the status of funding for prevention services, the Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC) Certification Training Program, the Prevention Council and other activities.
