This webinar will review the theory behind the ‘Chain of Infection’ as a model for preventing the spread of disease. It will highlight the role that masks play in preventing the spread of disease, including a discussion on the proper use of masks, their limitations, and a comparison of mask types, with a focus on the differences between surgical masks and respirators. This discussion will be in the context of the police workforce. 

Dr. Sandra Dorman is a Full Professor in the Faculty of Health at Laurentian University and the Director of the Centre for Research in Occupational Safety and Health (CROSH). Dr. Dorman completed her doctoral degree in physiology/pharmacology with a specialization in respiratory physiology and immunology. Her research program focuses on health promotion and disease prevention in the occupational setting.
