Award highlights the dedication, expertise and resilience of PSHSA’s people despite a challenging year.
TORONTO, March 11, 2021 — Canadian Occupational Safety (COS) magazine has named Public Services Health & Safety Association (PSHSA) a 5-Star Health and Safety Consultant for 2021.
Over the past three months, COS has interviewed and surveyed thousands of safety professionals across Canada to understand who they recognize as Canada’s best safety consultants. Participants rated safety consultants across a range of criteria – including meeting requirements, documentation, pricing and communication – assigning numerical scores to the companies’ performance. In addition to surveys, the research team conducted in-depth interviews with safety professionals in Canadian companies as well as safety advisors. To determine the star ratings for safety consultants, analysts gave a weighting to each criterion, depending on its relevant importance to customers, and applied an algorithm to the data. Where companies rated highly enough to achieve an approval rating of 80-percent or above, they were awarded a five-star rating in the relevant criteria/area. PSHSA received a perfect 5/5 score in all categories.
In 2020 and into 2021, PSHSA’s consulting teams were primarily focused on providing COVID-19 support to ensure workers can stay at work or get back to work safely. This has included leading over 370 health and safety audits, developing 70+ workplace guidance documents for workers and employers, and creating 25+ additional tools and resources to support workplaces with COVID-19 and infection prevention and control. Another key success was the pivot to remote service delivery. Within a few short weeks, PSHSA was able to attain approval and transition all scheduled in-person training to Distance Learning (live instructor led training in a virtual classroom) to ensure clients continued to meet their legislated training requirements. Further, PSHSA was the first in the province to launch JHSC Certification Part 1 eLearning in August 2020. This 2-day, CPO-approved eLearning program covers the first part of the training required for members of workplace Joint Health and Safety Committees.
“It’s always reassuring and encouraging to be recognized by your clients and partners, especially during such a challenging year. We know that sometimes difficult situations can bring out the best, and we’ve certainly seen that here at PSHSA,” explains Glenn Cullen, CEO and COO. “It validates what we already know to be true – our staff are among the best at what they do. This award is really about them, and we are so grateful for the passion they have for their work and their dedication to clients.”
