Overview

Public Services Health and Safety Association (PSHSA) is inviting applicants from the private, public and/or not-for-profit sectors, who will bring relevant functional expertise in health and safety, finance and accounting, risk management, technology, human resources, law, policy development, corporate governance, public relations, communications and education, to join our Board of Directors. 

There is no denying that the landscape has changed for all of us over the past year and a half, and for the elevated profile of occupational health and safety. PSHSA is a unique health and safety organization that has proven to be a system innovator and a strategic architect with an ability to anticipate and pivot to the needs of our clients, our stakeholders, and our funders. We are looking for a few new Board Members to join us as we welcome the future of Health and Safety in Ontario. 

Workplace health and safety has now risen to be top of mind for organizational leaders as they strive to sustain their businesses and protect employees, stakeholders and the public.  As a new Board Member you will work with a dedicated and extremely capable Board and Management Team to ensure impact, outcomes, and to reduce injuries and accidents in Ontario workplaces. Health and Safety has changed in Ontario and we are seeking out Board Members that can and will ensure PSHSA continues to  demonstrate our leadership and agility in modernizing its business model to better support clients and meet new, unprecedented workplace challenges head-on.  

PSHSA’s Board of Directors is composed of knowledgeable and experienced individuals with a history of leadership and commitment to the promotion of workplace health and safety. It is a competency-based Board with representatives from across Ontario that reflect the diversity of sectors that PSHSA serves – education providers, cultural organizations, healthcare services, provincial and municipal government and community affairs.

Collectively, PSHSA’s Board of Directors brings diverse backgrounds together to oversee the development of strategy, provide the stewardship of resources, and to ensure accountability to the public, supporting effective decision-making and risk management.

We are seeking two (2) to serve on PSHSA’s Board of Directors.

Commitments

This is an exciting volunteer opportunity for business and community leaders who are passionate about having a positive impact on the occupational Health and Safety System across Ontario now and for years to come.  The candidates will be formally elected to the Board in September 2021, and begin serving the term in 2022 or sooner.

The PSHSA’s Board members are expected to serve a three (3)-year term, and will participate in person, via teleconference or virtually in three (3) Board meetings and three (3) Committee meetings annually, as well as in the Annual General Meeting.

Required Experience and Qualifications

As part of the Board of Directors, members serve on one of  two Standing Committees:

• Audit, Finance and Risk
• Governance and Human Resources

We are inviting candidates with leadership experience, skills and competencies that align to one or both Standing Committees in order to achieve effectiveness and enhance the constructiveness of debate, deliberation and decision-making.

PSHSA’s Board Directors reflect our I-CARE core values of Innovation, Collaboration, Accountability, Respect and Integrity and Excellence. Each Board Director works in partnership with all Independent Directors, the Senior Leadership Team and key stakeholders to advance PSHSA’s deliverables, mission and vision from a strategic and governance perspective.

Travel and other business expenses will be reimbursed, if required, in accordance with established policies.
